LB Chris Marve, Vanderbilt PARTICULARS: 6-0/225, redshirt freshman HIGH SCHOOL: Memphis White Station BUZZ: Marve was asked to fill the big shoes of Jonathan Goff at middle linebacker, and he has come through. Marve has 44 tackles, two tackles for a loss, a sack, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble.
LB Travis Lewis, Oklahoma PARTICULARS: 6-2/232, redshirt freshman HIGH SCHOOL: San Antonio Robert E. Lee BUZZ: The Sooners will have to rely on Lewis more following the season-ending knee injury to fellow linebacker Ryan Reynolds. Lewis already has seven tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and an interception.
LB Sean Spence, Miami PARTICULARS: 6-0/202, true freshman HIGH SCHOOL: Miami Northwestern BUZZ: Spence is one of several Northwestern signees paying immediate dividends for the Hurricanes. He has 27 tackles, four tackles for a loss and an interception return for a touchdown against Florida State.

S Earl Thomas, Texas PARTICULARS: 5-10/195, redshirt freshman HIGH SCHOOL: Orange (Texas) West Orange Stark BUZZ: One of two freshmen starting at safety for the Longhorns, Thomas had a monster game against Oklahoma. He picked off two passes and forced a fumble against the Sooners. For the season, he has 24 tackles, the two picks, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick.
S Sean Baker, Ball State PARTICULARS: 6-1/205, redshirt freshman HIGH SCHOOL: Canfield (Ohio) High BUZZ: Baker is the leading tackler for undefeated Ball State with 52 stops. He also leads the team with three interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown.
K James Aho, New Mexico PARTICULARS: 5-7/175, true freshman HIGH SCHOOL: Roswell (N.M.) High BUZZ: Aho is 12-of-15 on field-goal attempts, including 5-for-7 from beyond 40 yards. He converted all five of his attempts in a 36-28 upset of Arizona.
P Bryan Anger, California PARTICULARS: 6-4/196, redshirt freshman HIGH SCHOOL: Camarillo (Calif.) High BUZZ: Anger has stepped in for Andrew Larsen with ease. He's ninth in the country at 45.1 yards per kick. Against Arizona State, Anger dropped three of seven punts inside the 20.

ALL-PURPOSE Patrick Edwards, Houston PARTICULARS: 5-9/165, redshirt freshman HIGH SCHOOL: Hearne (Texas) High BUZZ: The former walk-on is third in Conference USA in all-purpose yards and leads the Cougars with 501 receiving yards. He is also the team's primary kickoff returner.
