Peekskill Dynasty Crumbles

A Dynasty crumbles, at Glens Falls Class A State Semifinals this Saturday and the dream of winning a fourth state title is over. This game was predicted to be a Peekskill blow by most, but Peekskill fell asleep at the wheel and Jamesville DeWitt won 75-55.

The last time these two rivals met was in December at the Slam Dunk tournament with Peekskill for a close win 63-60.

The Devils launched the first attack, with Syracuse-bound Mookie Jones hitting a 3-pointer on his first shot. Jamesville took control in the first quarter 4-3 with four minutes left on the clock. Jones, receives two fouls but makes six points that are two three pointers for Peekskill 7-4. Jones foul trouble begun early on and he is benched, for a couple of minutes. He returns to the game with 6:19 left and Peekskill ahead, 16-13. For some reason, Jones game was somewhat off with him missing six straight shots that were forced shots. Peekskill keeps it lead 26-20 with 44.5 seconds in the first half. At the end of the first, Jones led Peekskill by eight points.

Jamesville's Brandon Triche, the team's leading scorer had three assists in the second but he had no support on the offense from team. Peekskill is up 26-22 but it hasn't been a good half for either team.

In the third, Jamesville's Mickey Davis scored six points, and Jones received his third foul with six minutes left in the third quarter. Jamesville kept its scoring streak with five straight points to take a 34-31 lead in the third. Jamesville took control of the game and Jones gets hit with his fourth foul. Jamesville's, 6'10" Nick Pascale kept the teams momentum up while they scored 11 straight points leading 40-31 with 2:54 left in the third.

The Red Devils are now frantic and Coach Lou Panzanaro of Peekskill is given a technical foul on a Peekskill possession. In the last, two minutes of the third Triche hits a free throw for Jamesville leading 43-31. Peekskill's, Elliot Watson makes two free throws breaking, Jamesville 16-0 streak. This is Peekskill's, first basket in four minutes; Jamesville 47-33.Jamesville had outscored the Devils in the third quarter, with help from Alshwan Hymes who scored 11 in that quarter alone, putting Jamesville up, 52-35.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Jamesville remained in a jaw dropping lead 54-35 in what has has turned into a blowout. The lifeless Peekskill Devils continue to trail with Jamesville leading 65-45 with 4:15 left. Jones stayed in the game even though he was in foul trouble and Jamesville began to slow down their pace.

The Devils sent subs in with two minutes in the game and the team down 71-50. Mookie, Jones, the star player for Peekskill for the last four years, made his last dunk ever in a state semifinal game and is out of the game with 40 seconds left. Peekskill Red Devils will return home early closing out an era, haunted by the Jamesville DeWitt win 74-55. This loss ended Peekskill's 37-game winning streak this season.

The high scorer for Jameville was Alshawn Hymes with 22 points on 10 of 19 shooting followed by Brandon Triche with 16 points, eight assists, seven rebounds.

Mookie Jones ended his high school career with 23 points (7-22 shooting) and 10 rebounds. Darien Thomas had nine points and eight rebounds. Ralph Watts had nine points; Daquan Brickhouse had eight points and seven rebounds. Elliot Watson had five points. As a team, Peekskill shot 18 for 67. Jamesville was 28 for 58.

Jamesville DeWitt (23-2) will play East Hampton in tomorrow's Class A state title game at 1 p.m. in Glens Falls, NY.
