Red Devils Shatter Rams

The Peekskill Red Devils scorched the Port Chester Rams and dominated the Westchester County's Sectional Class A game this Sunday. The Red Devils received their fourth straight Section 1 title and look to gain a fourth straight state title soon.

The Devils junior Darien Thomas increased the team first quarter lead with an outside open three pointer 12-6. Port Chester's Jordan Henriquez, answered back with the two and with a foul call on the Devils going to the line for one. Jones went in for two and teammate Daquan Brickhouse made a drive into the paint for two points. Port Chester realized early on that they were in trouble and called for a 30-second time out. Port Chester returned from the break motivated with Henriquez making a play for the basket however, intercepted by Red Devils Ralph Watts to pass to Watson for two. Syracuse-bound Mookie Jones continued the lead with a monster three-pointer. Followed by teammate Watson closing out the first with two 26-13 Devils.

The Devils controlled the second quarter with a 20-point lead over the scoreless Rams. Jones played hard and put in two with a pass from Watts. Relentless, Henriquez tipped in two points from teammate but Jones answered right back with the two. Port Chester had no answer for Jones and Watson who went on a scoring roll closing out the quarter 48-25 for the Devils.

The scoreboard seemed stuck at 30 in the third for Port Chester. The Rams suffered much foul trouble. Jones shared the ball with teammate Karl Baker for an easy lay-up shot 61-31.

Henriquez add two but it did not change Port Chester score much. King and Jones poured on the two's in this quarter closing out the third 69-33.

The Devils kept their streak with King and Thomas putting up two's. Devil's Jayme Gooding was able to fire off a nice three for his team. Followed by an animated performance by Devil Justin Silvestri who went up for two and shaked it out on his way with a smile. This game was over once Brickhouse landed his 3-pointer as the rams watch the score continue to rise. Port Chester really had no answers for the Devils, who went on to win, 96-43.

Mookie Jones ended with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, four blocks, and three steals. Teammate Elliot Watson contributed16 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks The Devils MVP of the night Daquan Brickhouse had 15 points, five rebounds, four assists. Port Chester's Steven Cordero had 11 points and Jordan Henriquez and Shakeem King added 10 points each.

NYCHoops asked leading scorer Mookie Jones about the game and the upcoming game, "Today we came out and played hard and did everything coach wanted us to do. I feel sorry for our next opponent; they gotta go up against Peekskill."
