St. Rays Dominates Molloy

Archbishop Molloy had momentum heading into Friday night, having won five games in a row and appearing in the NYCHoops Top Ten for the first time this season. Molloy momentum, meet the 2007-08 St. Raymond Ravens.

Even sans star guard Omari Lawrence, St. Ray's had enough firepower to obliterate the visiting Stanners, leading by as much as 33 points en route to an 88-71 victory, the 12th in as many tries for the Ravens this season.

Molloy managed to hang with St. Raymond through the first quarter, trailing by just seven, 23-16, at the period's end, but the Ravens, behind 10 points from forward Kevin Parrom, would pull away in the second, outscoring Molloy 30-15 for a 53-31 lead at the break.

The second half brought much of the same one-sided play, with St. Ray's opening up a 66-33 lead at one point in the third quarter. Molloy, to its credit, never relaxed or exhibited inferior effort, but the Stanners could produce no answer for the quick and efficient St. Raymond offense, which came into Friday's game averaging nearly 86 points per game.

Parrom led the way for the undefeated Ravens, scoring from inside and out and tallying 31 points. Point guard Darryl "Truck" Bryant also chipped in 17 for St. Ray's.

Guard Russell Smith was impressive in defeat for Molloy, repeatedly wowing the crowd with acrobatic shots in a 30-point performance. Guard Matt Grogan also did his part for the Stanners, racking up 20 points.

Lawrence, out for undisclosed reasons, will return to the St. Raymond lineup on Sunday, when the Ravens host NYCHoops #3 Holy Cross in a crucial CHSAA showdown.
