Cardozo Guard Gets Iona-ized

According to the Daily News, on Saturday night, after the Iona Gaels defeated Western Michigan, Coach Kevin Willard received a verbal commitment from 6'1" Cardozo point guard Trinity Fields.

Fields, had made visits to both Providence and South Carolina and had interest from Boston College, Clemson, George Mason, Hofstra, Marist, Rhode Island and Virginia Tech.

According to the Journal News, Fields was at the game yesterday and gave the Iona coaches an oral commitment.

While he doesn't get as much publicity as some of the other New York City guards, Fields knows he can play. "When I hear other guys mentioned before me, I used to get a little upset," said Fields. "Now I don't I know that I can play with anyone in the city."

Last season Fields led the Judges to an 18-0 regular season record and atop the Queens AA standings, before losing to Wings Academy in the city playoffs. "Losing was a bit of a let down, just because of the season we had," said Fields. Fields would end the 06-07 season with averaging 18 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists a game per contest. "Trinity is a true point guard," said Cardozo head coach, Ron Naclerio. "You might look at the points and get fooled, but he can get guys the ball whenever he wants."

For the summer Fields spent time passing the ball to Kevin Jones and Mookie Jones and manning the Westchester Hawks 17U AAU team. "Playing with the Westchester Hawks this summer helped me out a lot," he said. "Everywhere we played we finished in the final four. It also helped me get noticed a little bit from colleges too. When you have guys like Kevin and Mookie, coaches are going to come so you just have to try and find a spot where you can fit in."
