Player Profile: Blaise Ffrench

Blaise Ffrench
Holy Cross High School Flushing, NY
6-1/185 PG

The Holy Cross Knights won their first CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan championship last year. The first time they've accomplished this since 1978 and immediately making them a serious contender in the CHSAA this year. One reason was the high scoring performances of Virginia-bound Sylven Landesberg but another key, and often-overlooked reason, was the exceptional play of their senior point guard Blaise Ffrench.

Ffrench had a rocky sophomore year due to the untimely passing of his mother at the beginning of that season. "He took it hard and was in incubation," said Lloyd Desvigne, the Knights assistant coach. "His mother was at every game and drove him to school every day of his life." At the end of his sophomore year, Blaise Ffrench showed signs of recovery and by the end of that summer was totally revitalized.

When point guard, Trinity Fields transferred to Cardozo High School from Holy Cross "that opened up minutes for Blaise" said Desvigne, and Blaise took full advantage. In his junior year, Ffench average 12.5 ppg and 6.3 assists and took over the reigns as Holy Cross' point guard.

Ffrench currently is getting looks from Manhattan, Columbia and Long Island University

Strengths: Blaise Ffrench is very accurate three-point shooter with 40% accuracy. He also has a good ball handling skills and has the ability to get the basket. This keeps defenders honest, opening up various pass or shoot options as a point guard.

Weaknesses: Blaise needs to improve his decision-making ability and ability to deal with on the ball pressure. Occasionally takes plays off. Needs to keep up his intensity from game to game.
