Jayhawk Invitational ready for action

The spring travel schedule takes Rivals.com to Kansas University this weekend for the Jayhawk Invitational and the first tournament of May has some promise.

Event organizers have a 29-team field in the 17 and under division and the younger divisions have great potential for discovering some sleepers.

The majority of teams will have a chance to play in Allen Fieldhouse and the match-ups will be the ones that the fans will want to see. Opening night pairs Minnesota Magic Elite with Arizona Premiere.

Howard Pulley Black, a deep and talented squad, will take on Fort Sooy-No Limit at 7:30. Howard Pulley is led by super sophomore Royce White while recent USC commit Angelo Johnson and Wisconsin pledges Jordan Taylor and Jared Berggren give the team an experienced punch. Fort Sooy is led by point guard Verdell Jones.

The home team, KC Pump N Run, plays host to Athletes First and should be the must-see game for Kansas fans. Pump N Run boasts Travis Releford, Marcus Denmon, Steve Moore and youngster Michael Dixon. Athletes First is coached by former Kansas player Carl Henry and his son, Xavier Henry, is one of the elite players in 2009. Oklahoma commitment Kyle Hardrick was one of the top players at the Boo Williams Invitational.

The night cap pairs the Las Vegas Prospects, featuring Ohio State forward Luke Babbitt and the St. Louis Eagles, who boast Scott Suggs and John Bradenburg.

Other teams of note include the M33M Magic, where new five-star guard Elliot Williams and new four-star guard D.J. Seely man the backcourt. The 43 Hoops boast intriguing guard Anthony Tucker.

Other teams of note include: Compton Magic, Texas D1 Ambassadors, Houston Junior Hardballers and others.

All of the games are within walking distance at Kansas University. Tickets for games on Friday are $5. Saturday and Sunday passes are $7 while a complete tournament pass is $12.
