NEW HAMPTON, N.H. — A student at New Hampton School died Monday night after collapsing on a school basketball court, a school spokesman said.
Guy Alang-Ntang, a senior, was playing in a pick-up game at the Smith Gymnasium on the prep school campus. He was on the court, away from the action, when he apparently lost consciousness and fell backward about 7 p.m., spokesman Peter Miller said.
Alang-Ntang, a native of Camaroon, signed a letter of intent to play at Wichita State last fall and was playing in front of new Shockers coach Gregg Marshall when he collapsed. Earlier in the day, Alang-Ntang, 19, met with Marshall, reaffirming his plans to enroll at Wichita State in the fall.
Wichita State issued a statement on its Web site, saying: "We are deeply saddened by Guy's tragic death. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Guy's family, friends, teammates, and coaches during this time of loss."
He was taken by ambulance to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, where he was later pronounced dead.
Alang-Ntang is survived by his parents, who live in Cameroon.
