Friday night news and notes from NBA Camp

The main news coming out of Friday night's action at the NBA Players Camp in Richmond, Va., is that Alex Tyus has reclassified, changed schools and changed AAU teams.

"I am going to Harmony Prep in Cincinnati and reclassifying to 2007," said Tyus. "I've also changed AAU teams from the Illinois Warriors to the D-1 Greyhounds. I'm really excited about playing for them, and I will be at the ABCD Camp."

Tyus named Washington, Arizona, UNLV, Miami, Texas, UConn and Syracuse. He also said that he is a big North Carolina fan, but for now, he is just on their radar. Tyus also noted that UNLV and Miami have offered, and along with those two schools, Washington and Arizona are recruiting him the hardest.

Shooting the ball better and better, Tyus is an athletic, high energy player who also defends and rebounds well.

Jerryd Bayless, who came to the camp straight from the Nike Skills Camp, has struggled with a sore knee but played better in his game today.

He excels in an open game where he can utilize his speed. When the game gets congested, he struggles at times with his handle which tends to get high and loose.

Bayless is working with a school list of Arizona, Kentucky, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Illinois.

Andre Stephens has defended and rebounded the pas two days along with knocking down some midrange jumpers.

His list is comprised of Mississippi State, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky. Mississippi State and LSU are recruiting him the hardest, and one of those schools is his favorite.

"I've been a Mississippi State fan since ninth grade, but I'm not totally sure I want to go there," said Stephens. "I still need to check out the program and the campus and make sure I would be comfortable there."

2007 prospect Chace Stanback made the trip from Los Angeles to the east coast and has shown flashes of why he is a top 2007 prospect. He handles the ball well, finds the open man and can knock down jumpers. In need of added weight, Stanback's defense is behind his offense right now.

Appearing not too concerned about the recruiting process at this point, Stanback said he is being recruited by North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Arizona, Florida State and Illinois among others.

Scouting Observations

Aaron Holmes has a very sweet shooting stroke but needs to get stronger primarily for his defense. He struggled guarding the powerful Obi Muonelo.

Muonelo, who is better known for other attributes, continues to shoot the ball very well from the outside.

Marques Johnson is also shooting the ball very well from the outside and continually spotting the open man in transition.

Austin Freeman has a knack for coming up with the ball and also getting it into the basket. Freeman can both stroke it from deep and score inside with his power.

Lazar Hayward is another player in the camp who always seems to come up with rebounds and creates scoring opportunities.

Seth Tarver simply gets things done. He is hitting from three, coming up with rebounds and making athletic plays on defense.

Javaris Crittenton has size and athleticism as a point guard, and he put those tools to good use in locking up Lawrence Westbrook in tonight's action. On offense, however, Crittenton is not doing a very good job distributing the ball to the open man. He is typically set on taking the ball to the rim whenever creating with the dribble.

Julian Vaughn gets credit for the top offensive play of the night when he took his man with a left handed fake crossover at the key and then finished with a fading runner off the glass. This guy has a chance to be special.
