Whitehead Named Mr. New York Basketball first saw the raw 8th grader Isaiah Whitehead when he won the MVP award at the Boro's All-Star Classic in Brooklyn, NY. Back then, Abraham Lincoln Head Coach Dwayne "Tiny" Morton was asked, who the next "one" was?

He pointed to and responded, "Isaiah will be going to Lincoln. Right now, he is a skilled player with a lot of potential. When he gets stronger he will become one of the best players to ever come out of Coney Island."

On Tuesday, Coach Morton's prediction was confirmed when Whitehead, now a senior, was honored with the Mr. New York Basketball title. The Coney Island native now joins Lincoln HS/Mr. New York Basketball royalty; Lance Stephenson 2009, Sebastian Telfair 2004, and Stephen Marbury 1995.

The Seton Hall-bound Whitehead received accolades this year by also being named to McDonalds All American Game to be played in Chicago on April 2nd at the United Center.

Whitehead hit the trifecta, being selected to participate in the 13th Annual Jordan Brand Classic. On April 18th, the talented senior will get one last chance to put on show for his hometown Brooklyn and the city at the Barclay Center, delivering an almost storybook ending to his high school career.

The "Mr. New York Basketball" award, the top honor in the sport, is presented annually to a deserving high school senior by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, which includes scholastic and collegiate coaches from across the state. Last year's award winner was Jon Severe.
