Three NYers To Play in McDonald's All-American Games

Along with the aspirations of playing college basketball, one of the goals of many high school players is to be selected to play in the prestigious McDonald's All-American Games.

On Wednesday at 6pm, the Boys and Girls teams were announced and three New Yorkers made the final cut.

The McDonald's All American High School Basketball Games unveiled the official rosters for the 37th Annual Boys Game and 13th Annual Girls Game during today's 2014 McDonald's All American Games Selection Show on ESPNU. The nation's top annual high school basketball all-star event will again be played at Chicago's United Center on April 2.

Isaiah Whitehead was the only Boys player selected from the state of New York and the first Boys player selected from New York in four years.

When asked how it felt to be invited to play, the Seton Hall bound senior from Abraham Lincoln HS in Coney Island responded, "Amazing. [It's a] dream come true."

Whitehead told NYCHoops.net, who will be broadcasting the event live on SiriusXM, that being selected to play in the prestigious game is his most important accomplishment to date. "By far," he added.

On the Girls team, two players were selected from New York. Bianca Cuevas from Nazareth HS in Brooklyn. The dynamic South Carolina-bound guard will join Duke-commit Sierra Calhoun in representing the Big Apple on the East Girls Team.

Calhoun told NYCHoops.net that she was overjoyed with happiness. "I feel blessed and it is an honor to be a part of this prestigious event." The senior went on to thank her parents, coaches and teammates. "I'm going to cherish this moment and opportunity for the rest of my life," she said.

From the Tri-State areas, Karl Towns was selected from NJ to play for the Boy's East Team while Myisha Hines-Allen (NJ) from Montclair High School was selected for the Girls East Team.
