Since Rick Ray's arrival at Mississippi State, the Bulldogs coaching staff has spent a significant amount of time recruiting in Georgia. They have already secured a commitment from Georgia native Dante Scott in the 2015 class, and they came back for more on Sunday afternoon when Morgan County point guard Tookie Brown decided to end his recruitment and commit to Mississippi State.
"I committed to Mississippi State earlier today," Brown told Rivals.com. "They were the one school that had been calling me every day to check on me and see how I'm doing and how I'm doing in school. It just felt like the right place for me."
Brown's interaction with Ray played a big role in him deciding to pledge to the Bulldogs so early.
"Coach Ray and I have a really good relationship," Brown said. "He's always been there for me. He made it feel like home when I visited there, so that's where I'm going."
The 5-foot-11 lead guard has been to Starkville a couple times already to check out the campus. Those visits also factored into his decision.
"I hung out with the players there and they treated me like I was one of them already. They were all saying how good of a coach that Coach Ray is," Brown said.
Brown becomes Mississippi State's third commitment in the 2015 class, joining Scott and Joseph Struggs. Before giving his verbal, Brown had received offers from Murray State, UAB, and Xavier, according to his high school coach Charlemagne Gibbons. Several ACC and SEC schools were showing interest.
