SAN DIEGO -- Sitting on the bench, watching his Long Beach (Calif.) St. Anthony Saints team play all season has been a tough one. Eric Cooper Jr. was ruled ineligible for a semester after transferring because his father, Eric Cooper Sr., switched schools to coach.
Luckily for him, the test of patience ended Jan. 2. In his first game back, his team lost to Price High School, 66-58, but Cooper finished with 24 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Cooper, a three-star Arizona commit, is now in the class of 2014. In order to build his body and be ready for basketball at the collegiate level, he decided to stay back a year.
He committed to be a Wildcat nearly two years ago on Nov. 27, 2010, alongside his friend, Grant Jerrett. While at his previous high school, La Verne Lutheran, Jerrett and Cooper led their team to back-to-back state championships in 2010 and 2011 and went 25-8 last year.
Some figured that since he committed so long ago he could have been looking at other schools for a new home.
But Cooper without a doubt is still "all Arizona," and he rocked a University of Arizona snapback at the Under Armour Holiday Classic in late December.
