Visit weekend preview: Big names on campus

Get the scoop on your team:



It is a huge visit weekend at Arkansas and the headliner is the nation's top prospect. Springfield (Mo.) Hillcrest WR Dorial Green-Beckham will be joined by a big group of Razorback targets in Fayetteville.

There will be several five-star prospects in Florida checking out the Gators and Seminoles.

Coming off his visit to Tennessee last week, Lynchburg (Va.) Brookville defensive tackle Korren Kirven is scheduled to see Alabama this weekend before heading to Virginia Tech next weekend. Alabama is also working to get Rivals100 defensive end Channing Ward on campus this weekend. Ward is committed to Ole Miss and set to take his official visit to Oxford next week.

Some of the names have changed a bit as the week has progressed, but the Hogs still appear set to host the nation's top prospect Dorial Green-Beckham and 19 other official visitors for what could be the biggest recruiting weekend ever under coach Bobby Petrino.

Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III has officially declared for the NFL draft and Baylor is in need of quarterbacks on its roster. The coaching staff had obviously done its homework with several prospects prior to Griffin's move. Now, the staff is hoping that the late case it is making toward Garland's Seth Russell will pay off. Currently committed to Kansas, Russell is among the prospects visiting Waco this weekend.

The visitor list at Clemson this week includes two prospects currently committed to other programs. Arkansas DE commit JaMichael Winston of Prichard (Ala.) Vigor and Auburn LB commit Cassanova McKinzy are set to see what Clemson and new defensive coordinator Brent Venables have to offer.

El Cajon (Calif.) Christian WR Jason Gaines has Buff quarterback commitment Shane Dillon to thank for his football past and future, and he has Dillon's family to thank for much more. Gaines moved in with Dillon's family after two rough years at Granite Hill High School and will visit Colorado with him this weekend.

In what will serve as Florida's last major visit weekend before National Signing Day, the Gators will play host to a majority of the remaining top targets on their board who have not officially visited already. The list includes five-star prospects Stefon Diggs and Tracy Howard.

The Seminoles are set to host a big group of current commits along with several big-name targets, including five-star Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes athlete Josh Harvey-Clemons and five-star Tempe (Ariz.) Corona Del Sol OT Andrus Peat.

IU coach Kevin Wilson and his staff have just a few spots remaining in their 2012 recruiting class and they would like to fill one of those with a cornerback. One prospect they have targeted is Jeffrey Hall from LaPlance (LA) St. Charles Catholic and he'll be on campus this weekend.

It is crunch time for the Iowa coaches as they attempt to put the finishing touches on the Class of 2012. Reistertown (Md.) Franklin WR Ian Thomas is one of the top remaining targets that will be on campus this weekend.

Kansas assistant Reggie Mitchell got the phone call he was waiting for late Thursday night. Wayne Johnson, an assistant at H.D. Woodson that handles recruiting, delivered the news that two of his star players - Kenneth Crawley and De'Jon Wilson - were heading out to see Kansas this weekend.

While it may appear that LSU may be late to the Mario Edwards party, the five-star defensive lineman says that's not necessarily true. He headlines the list of visitors set to see LSU this weekend.

Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High four-star OL Avery Young says Hurricane coaches have been relentless in their pursuit of him. He is scheduled to be on the Miami campus along with Maryland commit Wes Brown and others this weekend.

Cleveland (Ohio) Heights offensive tackle Kyle Dodson committed to Wisconsin back in June, but he'll be checking out Michigan State this weekend along with a long list of prospects currently committed to the Spartans.

With at least five spots remaining Missouri's 2012 signing class, the Tigers' coaching staff is looking at any and all options to meet that quota. The most recent offer went to Iowa State commit Damien Lawry of Dallas (Texas) Wilmer-Hutchins and he could be among the group visiting Missouri this weekend.

Two official visit weekends remain for the Huskers as the staff pushes towards Signing Day looking to finish out the 2012 recruiting class. The list of prospects in town this weekend includes Gainesville (Ga.) North Hall running back and former Tennessee commit Imani Cross and Keller (Texas) Fossil Ridge three-star defensive tackle Aaron Curry.

Crete-Monee (Ill.) three-star cornerback Anthony Standifer has found no shortage of suitors since he parted ways with Michigan last month after being committed to the Wolverines since the spring. With Signing Day approaching, though, Standifer has narrowed his focus to three schools with an official visit set for Notre Dame this weekend.

One of the more unique commitments in Oklahoma State's 2012 recruiting class is Richmond (Texas) Bush High School defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, largely because he has been committed to the Cowboys since the beginning of football season and still has yet to set foot on the OSU campus. He'll be there this weekend with a big group of OSU commits and targets.

Ruston (La.) High cornerback Kentrell Brice is set to take his final official visit to Ole Miss this weekend. A final decision is expected from the 6-foot-1, 178-pound Oregon State commit shortly after he returns home to north central Louisiana.

Looking at Oregon's scheduled visitors for the last two weekends before National Signing Day, one thing is clear: the Ducks are looking to add a versatile athlete or two to their class of 2012. It could be a big weekend for Rutgers recruiting as scheduled to be on campus are several of the Scarlet Knights' top remaining in-state targets such as five-star DE Darius Hamilton of Ramsey Don Bosco Prep, four-star athlete Devin Fuller of Old Tappan, three-star OL Ryan Brodie of Long Branch and four-star DB Yuri Wright who was recently expelled from Don Bosco Prep.

One of the first stops new Tennessee defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri made Tuesday when on the recruiting trail was to meet with Columbus, Ga., defensive back Deion Bonner. Bonner will be on the Tennessee campus this weekend.

Five-star Aziz Shittu is so familiar with Stanford, he had even been committed to the Cardinal for a short time, that his official visit last weekend wasn't to tour around campus but to meet some potential future teammates. The next step for Shittu is to take his official visit to USC this weekend. Then he will trip to UCLA the last weekend before National Signing Day.

With five new assistants hired in 15 days, the Washington Huskies have wasted no time seeking out key targets along the recruiting trail in California to bolster their 2012 recruiting class.
