Reggie Harwell, 6'6 197 pound senior shooting guard has transferred from Cleveland (Va/Joes) to East Cleveland (Shaw), Ohio. Harwell, who was thinking about the move since last season, made it offical this past Friday. The reason for the transfer was due to Shaw high school offering special programs for extra credit and night school classes. Harwell, is behind in his course classes and will have a legit opportunity to now become eligibe to play as a freshmen in college. Harwell, who has already taken two night classes last school year, is starting to shape up his grades.
This is the third player that has left Cleveland (Va/Joes) for East Cleveland (Shaw) Ohio over the last two years. Remember Va/Joes is a private catholic school and Shaw high school is a public school. The three kids that transferred to Shaw high school live in that district, which cuts out any volition. Players leaving Va/Joes to Shaw includes highly recurited football prospect 6'0 senior Scooter McDougle, who also plays basketball. McDougle has narrowed his football choices down to Michigan State, West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. 6'8 senior Mike Merriweather who left Va/Joes after last season, and 6'6 senior Reggie Harwell.
Harwell averaged 20.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.3 steals last season and is considered to be one of the most versatile players in the country. Harwell has not narrowed his list down, as it tends to change often. But, his schools of interest include Tennessee, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Dayton, Cleveland State, West Virginia, Kent State, Marshall, Clemson and Iowa. He has taken two official visits to Dayton and Toledo, but has set more visits up with Cincinnati, Kent State, Marshall and Bowling Green.
Harwell competed with the Cleveland Basketball Club AAU summer program. He participated in the prestigious Adidas ABCD camp (averaged five pts, five rebounds & four assists). He also traveled with the team to Adidas BigTime (Las Vegas) and Best of Best (California).
Harwell has yet to take the SAT or ACT, but has made plans. Harwell currently carries a 2.1 GPA and has already signed-up for night classes at East Cleveland (Shaw) high school.
