CHSAA Powerhouse Shuts its Doors

The rumors that have been circulating this past season about the Harlem, NY powerhouse Rice High School closure were confirm today.

On Monday, NYCHoops.net made a call reaching out to the historic Catholic School where some of New York's top players emerged.

"Yes, the school is closing June 30th, this is the last day," said the receptionist when asked were the rumors true.

Rice HS is part of the Catholic Archdiocese and open its doors in 1938. There were rumors of financial struggles at the Harlem school. In the County of Westchester the situation is similar. The economy affected this past basketball season with schools holding schedule games by school location not by Class AA, A, B, C, etc.

Many other New York City schools this season have faced this harsh reality. Back in December NYCHoops.net reported John F. Kennedy HS in the Bronx, NY a PSAL powerhouse is slated to be phased out and is no longer accepting freshman citing poor academic standards.

The Rice HS program will close its doors having won the Federation State Championship in 2009 along with a long rich list of alumni members.
