Dawgs get Wroten, no on Brown

The wait is finally over. And while the Huskies missed out on one five-star recruit, they got another one of the top guards in the country as Tony Wroten, Jr., verbally committed to the Dawgs earlier today at Garfield High School.

Well, actually he let his teammates do the talking.

"Man, I don't know which to chose," he said, putting his hands on each hat representing a potential choice. But then his teammates, who were standing behind him, took off their sweatshirts to reveal Washington gear and delight the crowd.

Wroten, who has been recruited since he became a high schooler, decided to follow in the family footsteps as his father, Anthony Wroten Sr., played football at the University of Washington, as did his cousin, Nate Robinson before joining the basketball team and helping them to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament in 2005.

Although Wroten complimented each of the five programs he selected from, saying Villanova was close to his heart, he'd always wanted to play for UCONN and Louisville coach Rick Pitino is one of the best in the country, ultimately it came down to playing style.

"I like to get up and down the floor," he said. "It just makes sense."

This is obviously a big get for coach Lorenzo Romar, who just missed on getting Rivals150 athlete Jabari Brown just an hour before. Romar's 2011 class now includes shooting guard Hikeem Stewart (Rainier Beach), point guard Andrew Andrews (Portland, Ore.) and power forward Jernard Jarreau (New Orleans, LA).

Having an affinity for Kentucky early on, which has made a habit of sweeping in and getting commitments from Washington-favored recruits, Wroten dropped the Wildcats off his list recently. That left his choice between Villanova, Louisville, Washington, Connecticut and Seattle University.
