GASO: IBF tops Mustangs for another NCAA title

CARROLLTON, Texas - Same teams. Nearly identical scenario. Similar results.

Islanders Basketball Foundation and the Dallas Mustangs-Booker met in the NCAA Division championship game of the Memorial Day Great American Shoot-Out on Monday. The two teams met on May 9 during the GASO spring finale, and IBF earned a comfortable victory.

IBF won by 23 points then, and on Monday, IBF walked away from the Integrated Athletic Development with a 77-62 win over the Mustangs. The win gave IBF its fourth GASO championship since last year.

IBF took a double-digit lead in the first half and maintained it throughout the game. IBF led, 44-30, at the half thanks to the long-range shooting of Scott Mammel and Jordan Pratt. The two combined to sink seven 3-pointers and score 26 of IBF's 44 first-half points.

IBF finished with nine 3-pointers total. It also took advantage of the mid-range jumper.

"Those guys [the Mustangs] are extremely athletic. We're not as athletic, but we're all about playing with fundamentals," IBF coach Seth Engelken said. "That's the message we try to preach. We want to stay fundamental and stay focused on our goal."

Mammel and Pratt each finished with 20 points, and Michael Cantu had 17 in the win. Kendal Harris scored 26 points, and Marcus Foster added 21 for the Mustangs.
