Indiana recruit Victor Oladipo of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha says it's all pretty easy to explain.

It's not that he can't be a big scorer - he just usually is not needed to. And in keeping with the team-first mentality that has helped make the school one of the all-time great high school programs, he didn't.

Monday night, however, he did.

With star (scoring) player Quinn Cook in foul trouble, Oladipo stepped up and produced a career-high 26 points to lead DeMatha, No. 31 in the latest RivalsHigh Top 100 boys basketball rankings, to a 73-69 victory over No. 43 Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga.

"When my team needs me to score, I can score the basketball," Oladipo told The Washington Post (read its story here). "Just because I don't usually score a lot of points doesn't mean I can't score."

Oladipo, No. 133 in the Rivals 150 for the Class of 2010, scored eight of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as DeMatha, which wasted an early lead, rallied to win.

Oladipo, a 6-foot-4 senior forward had broke 20 points just once before. He's usually known for defense, rebounds and dunks (especially dunks, check out his victory in the HoopHall Classic dunk contest last month).

His coach, Mike Jones, told Peegs.com and Inside Indiana earlier this year that all-around games - including many with just a few baskets - are what games Indiana fans can expect from Oladipo.

"He is somebody if the Indiana fans are looking or pick up a paper, he may have a game where he scores 20 and then he will have a game where he scores seven," Jones said (read full story here). "But every game he almost has double-figure rebounds, he gets three or four steals, he gets a few blocks, he just does things like that every single game. He is very unselfish. You are getting somebody who is the glue of our team and has been for 2 1/2 years."
