He might be just a junior, but Myck Kabongo played at the next level on Monday afternoon.
Kabongo, who has verbally committed to Texas, had 20 points and 12 assists in leading Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's Prep, No. 17 in the latest RivalsHigh Top 100 rankings, to a convincing 72-52 win over Arlington (Va.) Bishop O'Connell at the Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.
St. Benedict's jumped out to an early 14-3 lead and never looked back, leading 40-21 at the break.
"Defense, that's what we preach every day," Kabongo told Masslive.com, our media partner at the event. "Once we play defense, everything else will come."
Gilvydas Biruta, a Rutgers commit who showed he is a threat both inside and outside, finished with 16 points and seven boards in the win. Temple commit Aaron Brown had five steals, 14 points and seven rebounds.
Bishop O'Connell was led by Jordan Burgess, a junior, with 20 points. North Carolina commit and the No. 32 recruit in the country, Kendall Marshall had 14 points in the loss.
