Olu Famutimi Has Top Three

If the AAU circuit had a king, it would be Olu Famutimi. Sure, Ohio wonderboy LeBron James -- who has joined Famutimi's Michigan Hurricanes on a few occasions this spring -- can create a bigger buzz in a gym merely by showing up, but sometimes he doesn't show. Famutimi is always there. And this spring, he has picked up an armload of MVP awards.

In the process, he has made college coaches pant. Famutimi told The Wolverine on Wednesday, May 29 that he has a top five of Missouri, Arkansas, Michigan State, Louisville and Duke. Add Michigan to that group, and you have his top six.

There has been much speculation for a while now that the high-flying 6-6 wing from Flint (Mich.) Northwestern is headed out-of-state for college. Having moved to Flint from Toronto just a few years ago, his roots are not that deep, and he concedes that he is considering pulling them up.

"I'm just really looking for my style of play and where I can get ready for the NBA," Famutimi said. Where might he find it? Well, he told The Wolverine that his top three schools are Missouri, Arkansas and Duke. Those are also the schools that he said he hopes to visit. A decision is not too far off -- "probably by fall," he said.

The basketball recruiting wrap-up issue of The Wolverine magazine is due out next week. Famutimi is just one of the sixteen recruits whose interviews will appear in that issue, which will also include . . .

• Full-page feature stories on 2002 signees Lester Abram, Amadou Ba, Graham Brown, Daniel Horton and Chris Hunter, 2003 commitment Dion Harris and the 2002 class as a group;

• Interviews with and profiles of 2003 targets Brandon Bell, Lawrence Carrier, Famutimi, Jaaron Greene, Byron Joynes, Drew Naymick, Brent Petway, Brian Randle and Will Sheridan, and 2004 commitment Ron Coleman;
