2012 prospect visits Iowa
Earlier this summer, Austin Burgett picked up an offer from the University of Iowa. Yesterday he made his first visit to the Iowa campus and spent time with Coach Todd Lickliter and his staff. He came away from the visit with a very positive impression.
"It was a nice visit," Burgett said on Monday evening. "They took us around the campus, showed us the arena, the basketball offices, and the academic center. I really liked the arena. It was really big and I liked the way it is set up."
He said that the Iowa campus reminded him of another Big Ten campus that he has already visited several times.
"It reminds me a lot of IU in the way that the campus is set up with a river and the campus on both sides of it. Sort of like a sports side and an academic side."
Burgett, who is a 6-foot-7 prospect from Avon, IN and part of the Class of 2012, had a chance to sit down with the Iowa coaches, including Coach Todd Lickliter for the first time.
"The interaction with the coaches was really good," Burgett said. "I talked to Coach Jordan, who has been recruiting me. He is a real nice guy. Today was the first time that I had met Coach Lickliter. We went into his office and talked about school, basketball, and how the month of July went. He talked to me about seeing me play this past month and that he liked my game."
Lickliter told Burgett that he could see him playing anywhere from a one to a four at Iowa in his system.
Burgett is scheduled to visit Northwestern on Tuesday afternoon before returning home. He also indicated that he plans to make a return trip to Iowa City this fall.
"We are planning to come back on September 19th for a football game at Iowa."
This past season, Burgett averaged 8.7 points and 6.4 rebounds as a freshman. He also plays on the very talented Indy Spiece All Stars AAU team, which includes another Iowa target, Jeremy Hollowell.
