Ellington still thinking
Berkeley (SC) Moncks Corner athlete Bruce Ellington is one of the state's most talented two-way stars, drawing interest in both football and basketball.
Though most recruitniks know Ellington's name from football circles, he is quickly becoming a coveted prospect on the hardwood.
"The latest offer I know about in basketball is South Carolina," he said. "Texas A&M came to one of my recent workouts and I talked with their coaches."
Ellington is the cousin of Clemson redshirt freshman running back Andre Ellington, and Bruce was recently in Tiger Town.
"It wasn't really a visit," he said. "I had a tournament for my AAU team up there. It wasn't like a visit to see the school."
South Carolina head coach Darrin Horn has taken an interest in Bruce's talents on the basketball court.
"He's a nice guy," Bruce said. "He's told me that he needs a point guard and stuff."
There are a few visits on tap for Ellington this summer.
"I know I want to go to Florida and Georgia," he said.
South Carolina should also receive a visit according to Ellington, but it will not be his first.
"I was up there recently," he said. "They have a really nice campus."
Ellington knows what he will be looking for in a school.
"I want a nice academic program and coaches that can teach me," he told GamecockCentral.com.
While he knows the attributes he wants in a school, the two-way star does not know which sport he wants to play at the next level yet.
"I don't know which I'm going to do," he said. "I'm going to just pray about it. It's a wait-and-see thing."
Chris' Take: Ellington is being recruited in football by wide receiver coach Steve Spurrier, Jr. If Ellington ends up playing basketball in college, it greatly enhances the chances that Ellington ends up in Columbia, compounded by the fact that Darrin Horn and staff could be looking for a second point guard in the Class of 2010 to pair with Mullins combo guard Eric Smith.
