Outler playing his way back onto hot list

It was a back and forth game from start to finish and after Plano West clawed back from a five-point deficit to take a one-point lead over Houston Bellaire with under a minute left in the quarterfinals of the Whataburger Tournament at the W.G. Thomas Coliseum, Bellaire junior guard Jamel Outler calmly dribbled the ball the length of the floor, put a crossover dribble on his defender and pulled up from three-point range with a defender's hand just out of reach. The shot hit nothing but net, and Bellaire went on to win, 71-68, without ever trailing again.

It was the biggest shot of Outler's 17-point game. Outler went on to average double digits in the tournament after a one-point loss in the semifinals to defending 5A state champs North Crowley and a third-place game win over Irving, and it was proof that the 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard was back after a shaky summer playing AAU ball for Houston Select.

Outler is gaining interest from Pittsburgh, TCU, Gonzaga, Texas A&M, Texas and Baylor.
