Wilson has Ducks in top 7
He may not have been operating at 100 percent, but Jamil Wilson still made an impression on observers at the Nike Global Challenge in Hillsboro last weekend. The athletic 6-foot-7, 211-pound small forward from Horlick High School in Racine, Wisconsin fought through pain to make plays on both ends, helping his Team USA 1 squad finish in second place at the event.
With summer basketball now over, Wilson is turning his focus on to his recruitment by cutting down his list of suitors and a recent unofficial visit has the Ducks in his final group.
"I'm down to seven schools - Oregon, Michigan State, Duke, Kentucky, Marquette, Texas, and Purdue," Wilson said. "Right now I'm in the process of narrowing it down (where I'll visit) and that's something I'm going to decide with my dad."
Wilson has Oregon on his current list largely because of a visit he made to campus while in the state for the Nike Global Challenge. "I was down there with my cousin and I got to walk around and meet the coaches," Wilson said. "I got to talk to a couple of the players and asked them about the school and the program and what they thought of it. I also met with the athletic director."
"It's a very nice school and it's beautiful there," Wilson continued. "It's big, but it's nice. I think I'll be coming back (for an official visit)."
Overall, Wilson is taking the recruiting process slow and plans on going on all his official visits before deciding, an announcement that will be made public on his late mother's birthday, March 8, 2009. In the meantime, he can reflect back on his summer including this past weekend.
"It was pretty fun," Wilson said. "My ankle wasn't 100 percent but I just tried to make the most of what I had. But it was a great experience just playing with all the guys that I'd met from different camps and tournaments."
