Four-star forward trims list down to five

On May 1st, Wesley Witherspoon plans to announce his college decision. The four-star forward from Lilburn, Ga., will do so at a signing day ceremony at his school.

In the meantime, Witherspoon will be weighing the pros and cons of five programs. He has narrowed it down to Memphis, Texas, Virginia, Colorado and Florida.

"My family and I are going to sit down and talk about it," he explained. "We are going to figure out which one I will fit in best at. We are going to figure out what would be the best situation for me. It is not only my decision, they are going to be a big part of it."

Witherspoon took official visits to Virginia, Texas, LSU and Colorado. And he has also been to Memphis a "couple times" unofficially.

"I haven't had a chance to go to Florida so I'm not sure if it is going to be my last visit or not," Witherspoon added.

His most recent trip was to Colorado last week.

"It is really nice out in the Denver area," Witherspoon said. "The one bad thing is that I really don't like cold weather too much. It snowed every day I was out there. But I liked everything else about my trip. Just the overall environment of the school was magnificent. It is something different from what I am used to."

Witherspoon, who stands 6-foot-8, 196-pounds, is ranked by Rivals.com as the nation's ninth best small forward prospect from the Class of 2008.

Witherspoon averaged 18.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game as a senior. He was named his Region's Player of the Year and also earned first-team all-state, first-team all-county and first-team all-Metro honors.

"The colleges that are recruiting me have said the thing they like most about my game is my versatility," Witherspoon said. "They like that I can check a guard on the perimeter but also guard a big man in the post. And vice versa. If a bigger man comes out to check me, I can go by him and get to the basket. If there is a little guard on me, I can take him to the post."
