Bawinkel talks about his decision

On Friday, head coach Todd Lickliter received his sixth commitment in the 2008 recruiting class as junior college prospect Devan Bawinkel accepted a scholarship offer to play for the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Bawinkel earned conference MVP honors this season after averaging 13.4 points per game at Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois.

Originally from Winnebago, Illinois, Bawinkel chose West Virginia over several other scholarship offers coming out of high school, but left last year after head coach John Beilen departed for Michigan. Today, we caught up with the Illinois native, who shot 44.5% from three-point range this season, to talk about his decision to join the Hawkeyes and much more.

Q: First, can you talk a little bit about your decision and when it all happened?

Basically, I made the decision yesterday morning when I spoke to Coach Jordan. He said he had talked to Coach Lickliter and and they really need a shooter. They said if I wanted a scholarship, it was mine, so I told him right away I'll take it.
