Recruiting Update: J'Covan Brown to Texas

The Texas Longhorns have had a quiet year on the basketball recruiting front with the lone senior on the roster being J.D. Lewis. On Wednesday in Port Arthur, the Longhorns received their first commitment of the 2008 class when Memorial standout combo guard J'Covan Brown declared for the the Longhorns in a recruitment that took many twists and turns.

Brown, ranked No. 42 in the 2008 class, picked Texas over the likes of Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, Baylor, Arkansas, Auburn, Oklahoma and New Mexico among others. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound scoring machine had been a Texas lean for well over a year and that never left his heart.

Brown took to the court Tuesday night in the first game of his senior season at Port Arthur Memorial, but made his name at Beaumont Kelly as a freshman and sophomore.
