Minnesota duo share special signing day
After playing together for two summers of AAU Basketball, Anthony Tucker and Andrew Brommer wondered at the end of July if this would be the end of their partnership on the hardwood. Tucker had already committed to Iowa and Brommer was looking for a landing place after de-committing from Minnesota in the spring. Just when it looked like they would go in a different direction, fate intervened and today both will be signing on with the Hawkeyes.
The Minnesota natives first met back in the 8th grade when they were trying out for the Minnesota Magic AAU team. One was a guard from Minnetonka and the other a forward from Rosemount. A few years later, they became teammates on Hoops43, which is run by former NBA player Chris Carr, where they played for two summers.
Brommer is the forward and at 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds, he caught the eye of Minnesota Head Coach Dan Monson early on and committed to the Gophers in October of 2006. But, then Monson was let go as Minnesota's coach and Brommer decided it was best to start looking around.
"I really wanted to make sure that this time it was the right fit after committing to Minnesota early on and having Coach Monson leave. I didn't want to get into anything that wasn't going to be the right fit for me," Brommer said.
