One-on-one with Gus Gilchrist

I'm excited," said Augustus Gilchrist, the latest Maryland men's basketball commitment. "I start classes there on January 22, 2008, and I can't wait."

Clearly, the 6-10 Clinton native-who is better known as Gus-is anxious to be a Terp.

"It feels good to get this decision over with," said the friendly, laid back youngster. "It's been dragging on for awhile now, but I am very happy to be a Terp. People thought I was under a lot of pressure with the decision, but it didn't bother me that much. But it's good to find a place where I will really fit in. I have always liked Maryland. I was interested in Georgetown, too, and I was lining up some other visits. If I had taken any more visits, they probably would have been to Kentucky and Virginia. But Maryland's visit was first and they have everything I was looking for.
"Maryland has a great coach in Gary Williams. They run the flex offense, which I am very familiar with. It suits me perfectly, since I can play down low or move out some. It's close to home and I can play in front of my parents and my friends."
