Markolf talks Badgers

Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan completed his 2008 recruiting class Tuesday night when San Antonio (Texas) Churchill three-star center Ian Markolf gave the Badgers his verbal pledge.

With his commitment, the 7-foot, 260-pounder rounds out a four-member class compiled of all out-of-staters, including four-star center Jared Berggren (Princeton, Minn.), four-star point guard Jordan Taylor (Bloomington, Minn.) and three-star shooting guard Robert Wilson (Garfield Heights, Ohio).

In the following, Markolf talks to BagerBlitz.com about why he chose Madison, Wis., as his academic and athletic future…

When BadgerBlitz.com spoke to you about a week ago you mentioned six schools you were looking at… Curious when it came to you that Wisconsin was going to be the place?

Well, I made my final decision yesterday (Tuesday) evening. During dinner time we finished the final decision. And then earlier in the week - probably before the weekend - I had narrowed it down to the four schools of Wisconsin, Kentucky, Baylor and Iowa State. And during the week after I had cut it down to four, I had just been doing some research, just trying to get the to know the schools better and see what they all had to offer. And then as the week went on I just got closer and closer to making that decision.

Why Wisconsin?

Just because all-around it seems like the right place for me in all aspects.
