Vols Chasing Alabama's Steele

It's not unusual for family ties to play a part in recruiting, and it's not always a lock that the outcome goes the way of the program holding the tie. It does work that way more often than not though. And that's what Tennessee and other programs are up against in the case of Andrew Steele, one of the more highly regarded point guard prospects in the Class of 2008.

Steele (6-foot-3, 195 pounds), from Birmingham, Ala., as many observers of basketball recruiting are aware, is the younger brother of Alabama standout Ronald Steele.

Andrew is developing a reputation as a fine player in his own right, but he's also used to hearing that most people expect him to make the easy decision, which would be to stay at home and follow in his brother's footsteps with the Crimson Tide.

Though he doesn't deny that Alabama is very much in the mix, he also is quick to point out that it's not automatic.
