Coach pleased with Mays' junior season

Guard Julius Mays of Marion (Ind.) High completed a stellar junior season during which he led his team to a 21-4 overall record and trip the semifinals of the state tournament.

Mays, 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, averaged 19.6 points and 4.6 assists to lead Grant County in both categories. He was also fifth in steals at 1.6 a game. He made 170 of 373 field goals (45.6%), 44 of 104 three-pointers (42.3%) and 106 of 129 free throws (82.2%).

"Julius, he continued to improve all throughout the season," Marion head coach Joe Luce said. "He had a great summer last year, started out the season real strong and just progressed throughout the year. He put himself in the situation where he will be one of the top three players for Mr. Basketball along with Walter Offutt, who's committed to Ohio State, and Tyler Zeller."
