A look at the Howard Pulley Panthers
The Howard Pulley Panthers begin their summer tour this weekend with a trip to Hampton, Virginia for the Boo Williams Invitational that opens up the AAU season of basketball. Led by a pair of Wisconsin commits, a nationally ranked prep schooler, the top stars of 2009 and some top uncommitted Minnesota seniors-to-be, Rodney Williams Jr. and the Panthers are ready for the summer.
Angelo "Bear" Johnson
2006-07 Stats at Stoneridge Prep: 13.6 ppg, 4.0 apg, 2.8 rbpg, 47% fg, 72% ft
Bear is the lead man for the Panthers this summer playing the point guard position creating the majority of the offense. As quick as they come, Bear will get to the lane on most and he can both finish and dish to get his team baskets. Johnson led the talented Stoneridge program in scoring and assists this season. He is ranked as the 12th best point guard nationally by RivalsHoops and the number 79 rated player overall.
2006-07 Stats at Benilde-St. Margaret's: 19.5 ppg, 4.8 apg
Taylor, a Wisconsin Badger commit, is a three star point guard who will run with Johnson and play the point when Bear needs a break. Taylor just finished leading his team to the Minnesota class AAA state title game where the Red Knights fell to St. Thomas Academy. Jordan did all he could to get his team to the finals including winning games late including an awesome performance against Cooper in the regular season finale where Jordan hit a pair of free throws and a jumper in the lane to give his team a momentous victory after Benilde was down in the final minute. Jordan is the number two ranked prospect in the state of Minnesota for 2008.
