Video: Lucas makes statement against Harris
DETROIT, Mich. - Since 1976 the boys basketball champion of the Detroit Catholic League and their counterpart in Detroit Public School League have in a game dubbed Operation Friendship.
And during the past three decades, the rivalry has been dominated by the schools of in the PSL. Detroit's public schools enjoyed a 27-3 advantage over their Catholic League opponents heading into Saturday's match-up between PSL champion Detroit Redford and Orchard Lake St. Mary's.
But the 31st Operation Friendship game swung the way of the Catholic League, as future Michigan State point guard Kalin Lucas led Orchard Lake St. Mary's to a 81-79 victory over PSL champion Redford.
Lucas scored 21 of his game-high 37 points in the second half. But it was an in-bounds pass from Lucas with 2.3 seconds remaining that triggered Justin Siller's game-winning field goal.
