Holman lucky to be alive

As you have probably read in some of the newsstand stories, Indiana signee Eli Holman was struck by a bullet Saturday night in his hometown of Richmond, Calif. Luckily the 6-foot-10 center was just grazed. Richmond
assistant coach Lonnie Coleman talked to us last night about the incident.

"I got to the hospital and he was very shaken up," said Coleman.
"Luckily the bullet just bounced off his back."

A serious tragedy was so narrowly averted.

"It was two centimeters from his spine," said Coleman. "The angle that it
hit, it was a miracle it didn't penetrate. It hit his back and just
bounced off."

Reports are that 10 rounds of gunfire hit with one bullet hitting the
headrest behind Holman. All the bullets apparently came from the passenger
side where Holman was sitting. Three friends and fellow basketball players
from De Anza High School were in the car with him but luckily were not struck.
