Scrimmage fest gives good glimpse of future
The annual Ohio Roundball Scrimmage Fest is one of the best options that fans and scouts have to see many of Ohio's top players in one gym on one day. In past years the event was held at Springboro High School, but this year the event moved to Central Crossing High School just south of Columbus. This year the scrimmage fest was headlined by Yancy Gates, Kosta Koufos, Chris Wright, Dante Jackson, and William Buford.
The first session featured Akron St. Vincent St Mary, Greenfield McClain, Toledo Libbey, Dayton Dunbar, Solon, and Lancaster. With those six teams there was star power abound.
The first big time match up pitted Jackson's McClain Tigers against Buford and his Libbey Cowboy teammates. Libbey had participated in another scrimmage the day before, and they looked tired. McClain took it to them from the opening tap.
The match up of Jackson versus Buford didn't really materialize, since for the most part they did not guard each other, but at times they did have chances to show each other what they could do.
The star of the game had to be Jackson. He finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. More than that, he controlled the entire flow of the game. He brought the ball up the floor against Libbey's pressure defense and also was the main option to rebound and score after passing. Everything that McClain did ran through Jackson. Though he only shot 4-14 (1-3 from three), he still was very efficient. He was forced to take bad shots due to not being surrounded by the best talent. Jackson scored 10 points from the foul line, and really iced the McClain blow out win.
