New England's elite

Foxboro, Mass. -- Erik Murphy is smooth. He hits almost every shot from within 12 feet. He works off screens to get open and hit short jumpers. He takes the ball to the basket, rebounds and he commits few turnovers.

It has not always been that way for Murphy, a 6-foot-8 prospect in the 2009 class who attends Southborough (Mass.) St. Mark's, one of the top players Wednesday at the New England Elite 75 Showcase at Mass Premier Courts.

Clumsy is not a word that comes to mind when watching Murphy, who was named the 15-under most outstanding prospect at the Providence Jam Fest while playing with his BABC AAU team.

Because of that performance this spring, he earned an invitation to Reebok's Camp Next. His father, Jay, played at Boston College and was a second-round selection in the 1984 NBA Draft.
