Moon's Walsh receives Pitt offer
Pitt has officially offered Moon Area guard Brian Walsh. Walsh has over a dozen offers already, two weeks before starting the first day of school of his junior year. Walsh most recently visited Maryland, and has also had a lot of contact with St. Joseph's and Xavier. Walsh talked about the excitement of receiving an offer from his hometown team.
Walsh, as a sophomore, led his Moon Tiger team to its third consecutive Class AAA WPIAL Championship, leading the team in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebound (8.0), all as a two-guard. He gained attention nationally after attending the ABCD camp, switching over to the one-guard. Most coaches at the camp figured Walsh would end up as a legit two-guard, but his stock boosted after he displayed his versatility.
Walsh, prior to visiting Maryland last week with his family, participated with his AAU team, the Pittsburgh Storm, in Orlando. As a U-16 team, the Storm competed against all U-17 teams in the silver division, playing against some of the top competition. They finished strong, winning three of five games against teams from all over, including New Jersey and Baltimore. The Storm includes other players from the area such as Jonathan Baldwin, Mike Shanahan, Christian Wilson, Brett Mason, Mike Zarosky and Steve Crest. Walsh averaged 10 points a game in those five games.
"It wasn't my best tournament individually," Walsh added. "But, we played well as a team."
Walsh plans on visiting a few more schools, but is in no rush to schedule new visits, or make a commitment prior to the start of his junior year.
