Stokes and Samuels in Vegas Action

Villanova got a verbal from Corey Stokes (6-5, guard, St. Benedict's, N.J.) back on June 14. Stokes is currently out in Las Vegas playing in The Main Event. VUSports was on-hand to watch his two weekend games.

Villanova associate head coach, Brett Gunning was in attendance at Stokes' Saturday game and Head Coach Jay Wright watched Corey in action on Sunday.

On Saturday, Stokes and his Metro Hawks teammates lost 80-72 to a talented H-Squad team. Corey played the full 32 minutes posting 22 points on 9-of-24 shooting from the floor, 2-of-11 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the FT line. He also grabbed seven rebounds (three offensive), had two assists, one blocked shot and two turnovers.

Anyone who once knocked Corey Stokes for playing too passively on offense should now rest assured that Stokes is anything but shy about taking and creating shots. Three of Corey's three-ball attempts were from 25-feet out - two of them went half-way down and spun out.

On Sunday, Corey Stokes got in some early foul trouble in his game against the Houston Heat. Foul trouble limited his minutes to 20 and his effectiveness on the defensive end.
