Tide commitment's stock on the rise

Rico Pickett, one of three UA basketball commitments for the class of 2007, kept a low profile on the AAU circuit last year with the 6-foot-4, 175-pound combo guard playing in only a handful of small events. But this year the Decatur High School standout has made it a personal goal to earn a national reputation and last weekend he took his first big step towards receiving that recognition.


Pickett and his Southeast Elite squad headed to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Real Deal on the Hill tournament and made a strong case for being considering among the nation's elite prospects.


"Rico played well over the weekend. He has a nice mix of athleticism and skill with the ball. He can score from inside or outside. He's a tremendous scorer with a polished game," Rivals.com National scout Jerry Meyer said. "He does a good job of creating with the ball and he made some nice passes off the dribble. He has a chance to be one of the top scoring guards in his class.
