Monroe nears decision

Upper Marlboro (Md.) Frederick Douglas cornerback Demory Monroe will be under commitment-watch in about five weeks, which is when he plans to choose from West Virginia, Hawaii, Ohio and Wake Forest if the Demon Deacons offer him a scholarship.

"If they [Wake] offer me it would be a good look," Monroe said. "It wouldn't really make a big effect, but it would make an effect, because they would automatically be in my top three [taking the place of Ohio]. If they offered it would be West Virginia, Wake Forest and Hawaii [in that order]."

Jonathan Himebauch is recruiting him for the Deacs. He camped at Wake Saturday, July 14.

"It [Wake Forest] would fit me academically and on the field in an athletic sense," Monroe said. "They're still evaluating [me]. They're still recruiting me. Me and Coach Himey, we stay in touch. Wake Forest is a good look. It's a beautiful campus. I like the campus. I had a good feel for it."

"I was comfortable with how Coach [Tim] Duffie, the DB's coach coached and how he showed leadership as a coach and how he explained things. He made sure we understood how things were supposed to work. That was a good thing. I really like Wake Forest."

The 5-foot-11 and 173-pounder, who is rated as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com, plans to visit Ohio sometime this fall. Monroe said he has family nearby.

"They're a good program from how the coach described it, and it will be a good look too," Monroe said.

He added Massachusetts is also showing interest.

"What I'm looking for is to go to a school that fits me academically to where I stay there my four years and I graduate and also hope it's the right for me for off the field and on the field, so that I will actually have more to bring to the table when I'm done playing football or if I'm still playing football," Monroe said.

Monroe said his strengths as a player are his cover and ball skills.

He added college coaches like his ability to smoothly backpedal.
