Best of 2013: Jeremy Johnson

TideSports.com traveled across the state of Alabama to locate the top prospects in the class of 2013 and find out what makes them so special. In Montgomery, Carver High School quarterback Jeremy Johnson broke out as a junior, both on the football field and on the basketball court, and he makes our list.

Name: Jeremy Johnson
Position: Quarterback
High School: Carver (Montgomery)
Height: 6-foot-6 | Weight: 215 pounds

Considering: Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss

Why he's a top prospect: Johnson looks and plays like the next Cam Newton. He's 6-foot-6, 215 pounds with a cannon for an arm, and he has the ability to run by you and over you. As a junior, he threw for 2,700 yards and 26 touchdowns. He's also averaging over 20 points a game on the hardwood this year for Carver. He's good enough to play either sport at the next level, and some schools have even brought up the possibility of playing both. Johnson has already been invited to the Elite 11 camp in California, the top camp for quarterbacks across the country.

What he said: "I like the excitement of being at quarterback. That's probably one of the hardest positions on the field. I can take all the criticism. I can take all the hype. But playing quarterback, that's the best feeling on the field."

"My favorite quarterback is Cam Newton. He probably runs better, but I think I can get him in the throwing game."

"I'm trying to wind it down to what sport I'm going to play. It's a hard decision because I love both of them. I'll probably wait until after both signing days. I don't think I'm going to sign on signing day."

Coach's take: "He's torn between that football and basketball thing. I think it's going to come down to what offer is going to be the best offer for he and his family. Like I tell him, whatever he decides to do, I'm right there with him, behind him 100 percent. I think he's going to be tremendous in somebody's program either way it goes."
