Junior Defensive lineman Charlton offered by Michigan
Following his visit to Michigan for the night game against Notre Dame, Pickerington (Ohio) Central junior defensive lineman Taco Charlton wasn't expecting a Michigan offer. When that offer came through on Thursday, it was only the timing that came as a surprise.
Michigan defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery had his eye on Charlton, and didn't take long to pull the trigger on a scholarship offer. In today's digital age, it should come as no surprise that Facebook was involved in the offer process.
It's easy to see what Michigan likes in Charlton. He stands 6-6 and weighs 240 pounds, already as big as many college players. He is quick off the edge, and an intimidating force for opposing quarterbacks to see barreling into the backfield. He even has the athleticism to play as a linebacker on some downs for Pickerington Central.
The scholarship offer from Michigan is his biggest one yet, joining the likes of Cincinnati, Syracuse, and UCLA. Charlton is hearing from schools all across the country, and he's likely to rack up more offers when all is said and done. Right now though, he has other things on his mind.
That focus won't prevent him from taking more visits this fall, however. Purdue and Notre Dame are among the schools he's planning to visit, and there are a few more destinations that he hasn't determined yet. It might come as a surprise that he has already passed up on visiting his hometown Ohio State Buckeyes.
While that statement is sure to warm the hearts of Wolverine partisans, there's a long way to go in Charlton's recruitment. He's planning to take all five of his official visits before making a college commitment.
