Marrero looks to set visits
The Iowa coaches have had their eye on DeJuan Marrero for a while and last month they decided it was time to offer a scholarship. The 6-foot-5 forward recently wrapped up a very busy summer and is now starting to focus more on recruiting and where he will take official visits.
"I just finished up playing with Team Puerto Rico at the Nike Global Challenge and that was a good experience. Now I am back home and getting back to work, focusing on improving my perimeter skills and looking forward to my senior season," Marrero said.
Since returning home, the 2012 prospect from Gary, IN has also started to think more about his list of college programs that have been courting him and have offered scholarships. One of those recent offers came from the University of Iowa.
"I got the offer last month from Iowa," he said. "Coach Dillard has been my main contact with Iowa and he called and let me know that they were offering a scholarship. Iowa is a good school and a good program in the Big Ten, so it's a good offer for me."
In addition to Iowa, he holds offers from Minnesota, Illinois, Dayton, DePaul, Seton Hall, and Ball State. Marrero says the next step is to cut his list of schools and then schedule official visits. He three star forward who is ranked #129 by Rivals.com in the Class of 2012 says he will work with his coach at Bowman Academy to set up those visits.
Will Iowa make the cut?
"Iowa will probably be one of my official visits, but I have to figure that out with my coach."
One factor that could help the Hawkeyes is the fact that Marrero is friends with fellow Indiana prep Patrick Ingram, who committed to Iowa last week.
"Patrick and I are friends and he is a really good guy, so who knows what will happen," Marrero said.
