Gotcher preparing for the grind

Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial shooting guard Toddrick Gotcher has been finishing up his final semester of high school and attempting to prepare for what's to come this summer in Lubbock.

"My semester has gone really well, it's been a lot of fun," Gotcher said. "I've talked with all of the coaches and they've had me doing drills. They've given me some workouts to get ready for when I get to Tech. So I've been keeping up with those regularly and just trying to get myself in the best shape possible for when we start working out there. I know it's going to be really difficult so I didn't wan to come in unprepared. I'm sure I'll still come in with a long way to go, but I'm not going to be surprised by anything they throw at us."

One of those coaches Gotcher has visited with is new assistant coach Chris Walker.

"Coach Walker and I are already building a great relationship. I know he's coached some great players at Villanova, and some really great point guards," he said. "I'm excited to get in there and let him coach me up too. I hope I can be one of those guys that he's helped turned into great players."

Like the other members of the 2011 class, Gotcher has had to adjust his expectations given the fact that he was recruited by one coach, and will actually be playing for another. With the change to Billy Gillispie, Gotcher is expecting a rigorous path.

"[Gillispie] told me he's going to work me hard. He's talked about pulling out the best in me, and in all of us," Gotcher said. "Coach Walker told me he's going to push me to the limit to where I wanted to quit, but that it will just be part of the process that will make myself and our team better everyday. Coach Gillispie has told me that if we're a good team, our work ethic will make us a great team. I can't wait to get started."

Gotcher chose Tech over offers from Auburn, Baylor, The Citadel, Drake, Houston, NC-Wilmington, North Texas, Pennsylvania, San Diego, San Jose State, SMU, Tulane, and UTEP. He's scheduled to arrive in Lubbock on June 5th.
