Olaseni returns from Iowa
Coach Fran McCaffery is looking to add two prospects to his class of 2011 prospects and this past weekend he had one of this top big man targets on campus for an official visit. Iowa was the first school to offer 6-foot-10 post player Gabe Olaseni and the Hawkeye coaches made him feel right at home this weekend as he got a closer look at the Iowa campus and the Hawkeye Basketball program.
"It was a good visit," Olaseni said Sunday afternoon. "I really didn't know what to expect since it was my first official visit, but it went really well and the people at Iowa were really genuine."
Olaseni grew up in England and made great progress this past season with his overall game at Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas. Iowa was the first school to offer him a scholarship and since then the Hawkeyes have had his attention.
"I was looking forward to seeing Iowa and the coaches made me feel right at home. They told me that they need a player like me that can come in and really help them on defense. They said they feel like I can really come in and help the program change and improve."
The Iowa coaches also told Olaseni that he would have a chance to play through his mistakes early on and he said the opportunity to come in and play early was exciting to him.
Olaseni was hosted on his visit by freshman Melsahn Basabe and during his visit he also toured Iowa's Communications school, which is what he would like to study in college.
"It was a great campus. I really liked it," he said. "I went to the communications building and they showed me around there since that is what I am looking to study in college."
Since this was his first visit, Olaseni declined to name Iowa as his leader. He plans on making at least one more official visit to have something to compare it to.
"This is my first visit, so I really have nothing to compare Iowa to at this point. I'm going to visit Mississippi in two weeks and after that I might take another visit. It just depends how I feel," he said.
Olaseni said that he hopes to sign with a college at the start of the April signing period.
