Cheivous has CSU on top after visit
The first official visit of his career was a good one for Quinton Chievouswho spent last weekend in Fort Collins, Colo. at Colorado State University. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard said he enjoyed his first visit and said it kept the Rams towards the top of his list of potential suitors.
"CSU is still at the top of my list," Chievous said. "They have been there from the beginning and have to be on top."
Chievous was named Honorable Mention All-State by the Chicago Sun-Times last year, as well as the area Player of The Year by the Daily Bugle. He averaged 22 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game for Notre Dame Prep in Chicago, which went 19-10 last season.
Previous to this week, Colorado State was Chievous' only scholarship offer, but he reports Detroit and Southern Illinois have both since offered. He said he plans to visit Detroit unofficially, and will be at South Florida Oct. 13-14. He has also been hearing from Baylor, Missouri, Notre Dame and Xavier, among others.
If those schools want him for their own, they will have to edge out Colorado State, which he said showed him a good time this weekend. Chievous said he got to see some of Denver when he flew in on Friday, and spent time with both coaches as well as academic support personel. Saturday was spent watching workouts and meeting the team.
"Saturday morning we watched workouts and I thought I fit into the system pretty well and I really liked the guys and the way they played," Chievous said. "I went to the TCU/Colorado State football game and it was a lot of fun, but TCU really put a real spanking on Colorado State.
"Saturday night the players and the coaches had a get-together at a nice restaurant and talked. At the end of the night I taked to Coach (Tim) Miles and he said that he liked my style and thought it fit well into their system. He thought I could get some good minutes in my first years there.
"It was real good," Chievous said. "It was my first time to Colorado and I liked it."
Chievous said since he returned to Chicago from Colorado he has been getting more interest from schools like South Florida, Southern Illinois and Detroit, which may delay a decision for the short-term.
"I'll probably take any other visits as officials after things slow down and after the seasons starts," he said.
Until then, Chievous said he is working in Open Gym's and lifting weights leading up to his team's first day of practice on Nov. 8.
