Positive reactions for Petteway
Galveston (Texas) Ball small forward Terran Petteway committed to Texas Tech a little over a week ago and since returning home, the reaction has been all positive for the 2011 standout.
"Man I've been shown a lot of love. As soon as I got back from my visit and went back to school, everybody was congratulating me," Petteway said. "All of my friends and family are excited for me and they were happy that I made the decision that was best for me. I've gotten e-mails, text messages, the whole nine. It's been great."
Petteway was hosted on his official visit by Texas Tech senior Brad Reese, and he cites the bond between the teammates and coaches as a huge reason for deciding on the Red Raiders. "It was just a really cool feel up there. Not just in the basketball program but in the city too. The players are all close, and it seems like they have a different kind of relationship with the coaches. It was a real family atmosphere."
The 6-foot-6, 185-pound prospect was also attracted to the style of play Pat Knight is implementing in West Texas. That, combined with the opportunity to contribute, was enough for Petteway. "I really like what Coach Knight is trying to do there. I feel like I'm a versatile guy and that's exactly what he's looking for," he said. "He wants five guys that are able to play almost any position, and more importantly, defend any position on the other end of the floor."
"Will all of the seniors on this year's team, I'll have a good chance of playing early. Everybody wants to be able to come in and make a big splash from the get-go. I'm not throwing out any predictions or anything, but I'm excited to at least have the chance to get on the floor and help the team."
Petteway said that he's continued to hear from Houston since committing to Texas Tech, but has no other visits planned. It sounds like his commitment has come to an end.
"I told myself that I only wanted to make one decision and stick with it. I've looked at all my options and I've seen how I'd fit in with them. I like what they've got to offer at Texas Tech and I'm set in my decision," he said. "It's done now. I'm solid with Tech and I'm happy with my decision. They're a program on the rise and I'm looking forward to being a part of that. I'll be at Texas Tech next year and it's going to be a lot of fun."
Petteway committed to Texas Tech over offers from Bradley, Clemson, Colorado, Colorado State, Creighton, Houston, Mississippi, North Texas, Oregon, Penn State, Pepperdine, SMU, and UTEP.
