Mabry wants to prove himself

Junior forward Tashawn Mabry from Rocky Mount (N.C.) High has a simple goal for this summer.

"That I am better than most people think I am, that's all," Mabry said. "That I play hard every play, and that I'm a good player. Not a good player, I want to be a great player."

Mabry, 6-foot-6, 205 pounds, began that process last weekend at the Dave Telep Carolina Challenge. He was among the top producers for Team David West, which also included junior guard and Wake Forest commitment J.T. Terrell from Cummings High in Burlington, N.C.

Mabry was hoping to use the Carolina Challenge as his springboard for the rest of the spring and summer's sometimes grueling AAU season.
